Terror grips the soldier’s heart,
He runs away in fear,
Conscripted, national service,
Forced to do at least three years.
Deep inside the young man’s mind,
A memory rears it’s head,
Honour to fight for your country lad,
That’s what the voice had said.
Faster now the soldier runs,
The bullets whistle by,
Just past his eighteenth birthday,
He’s still far too young to die
Deep inside the young man’s brain,
He curses the foul play,
From the power men who started,
This war from far away.
Adrenaline in the soldier’s veins,
He’s running really fast,
Fear has lent him angel wings,
But this energy won’t last
Deep inside the young man’s thoughts,
How he kissed his girl goodbye,
Just glanced back in time to see,
Tears glisten in her eyes
A bullet crashes in his back,
Another sets him free,
Looks up into the stranger’s face,
Last sight the young man sees
A thousand soldiers like this man,
The death counts more and more
They die away, on foreign soil
For another ‘just’ war

That last line I agree with you, the meaning is very important. I think it still flows just as well too.
